The solution concerns the production method of 4 (5)- formamidoimidazole-5(4)- carboxamide of hydrochloride of the formula I in such a way that 2-oximinomalonamideamidin hydrochloride is treated by hydrogen in the ambient formic acid, to an advantage with the use of a catalyser at a temperature of 10 degrees C to the boiling point of the reaction mixture. When finishing the treatment of the hydrogen, the reaction mixture is further heated and the product of the formula I, is isolated from the reaction mixture. The substance is an important intermediate product of the production of pharmaceutics, which are used for the therapy of oncogenic diseases.<IMAGE>
