Grinding inner surface of circular arc - involves adjustable pendulum movement of grinding roll to produce work of varying radius

Machines for grinding the inner radius of drum brake linings usually have a grinding roll for each radius to be ground. The need for separate grinding rollers is avoided by generating the radius with a pendulum movement of the grinding roll, the length of the pendulum arm being adjustable to produce different radii. In side view the machine is seen to have a sub-frame (12) on which are mounted the grinding roll (3) and its motor drive (4,5). Thee sub-frame (12) is adjustable along the arm (6), which is pivoted about the fixed point (7) and driven to and fro by the hydraulic cylinder (8). The workpiece is clamped in the workholder (2). USE/ADVANTAGE - Mfr. of drum brake linings. Machine design avoids the expense of stocking different sizes of grinding rolls.
