PURPOSE: To reduce the parasitic vibration of an article without causing crackings by providing a vertical thin plate which is made of a laser material having a pair of opposite end faces and a pair of facing pumped surfaces and has a nearly rectangular shape and a means which contains each end face having a recessed section and reduces the parasitic vibration. CONSTITUTION: Since end faces 14a and 14b at both ends of a thin plate 10 are straight and are accurately perpendicular with respect to the pumping faces 12a and 12b, ordinary gaskets can be used on both ends of the main body 10. Central parts 14c and 14d of the end faces 14a and 14b are formed in concave shapes in the transversal direction, so as to reduce transverse-mode vibrations. In addition, in order to prevent the chipping of corners 19a, 19b, 19c, and 19d of the plate 10, the corners 19a, 19b, 19c, and 19d are chamfered. A ray of light 16b brings negative reflectivity in the concave sections 14c and 14d and, when reflected light exists, the reflected light becomes divergent light, and the possibility for the occurrence of a stable transverse parasitic mode of laser is reduced. The ray of light is reflected form the curved surfaces 14c and 14d, and the number of closed-loop passages are limited to a very small number. |
