Edible oil de-odorizer - column with levels and valve link has intake and offtake heat exchangers

Edible oil is de-odorised in charges which pass from stock through a series of levels or stages linked by valves. The charge entering passes through a first heat exchanger for preheating, and the through a second at the offtake for cooling before leaving the column. The exchangers are filled with deaerated distilled water which boils or condenses at the temperature of the charge being handled. Simple apparatus conserves heat, avoids boiler scale problems of continuous apparatus and keeps charges separate to ensure this heat retention and consequent economy.
