The invention relates to the engine manufacturing industry. The air cleaner comprises a casing (1) with an air supply tube mounted inside it so as to provide an annular gap (3) between. In the gap (3) is located a main filtering element (5) and near the outlet opening of the air supply tube (2) is located an additional filtering element (14). According to the invention the element (14) is provided with a recess (15) coaxial to the tube (2) on the surface (16). The dimension of the recess (15) on the surface (16) exceeds the diameter of the tube (2). The air cleaner may preferably be used in an engine working in an aggressive atmosphere saturated with oil vapors and with carbon black.
