PURPOSE: To execute metal working without using a die by cooling a coil of a solenoid magnet having a coil of a superconductive material down to a supercritical temp. or below, energizing this magnet to generate direct current and magnetic field, moving a conductive workpiece in this magnetic field and acting magnetic pressure thereon. CONSTITUTION: The annular solenoid coil 10 is supported by a supporting plate 12. The central axis of the coil 10 is held open so that a rod 14 to be worked by the magnetic fluid (MHD) type metal working method is passable within this opening. The magnetic layer formed by the superconductive coil 10 generates internal force in the rod 14, by which the diameter of the rod 14 is reduced. The outward radial force is generated in the annular coil 10 and, therefore, a suitable supporting member is made necessary. As a result, the metal working method not using the die is provided and the deformation of the solid metal without the occurrence of wear is made possible. |
