<p>The roving passes between co-operating guide surfaces pref. the surfaces of a pair of guide rolls, which exert a braking effect on the roving and maintain it under tension between the guide surfaces and the feed rollers of the drafting mechanism. Pref. the guide rolls and resiliently biassed together and are provided with brakes which oppose rotation caused by contact with the advancing roving. Alternatively the guide surfaces may be defined by a pair of aprons. The tension imparted to the roving reduces twist variation, and ensures correct fibre alignment as the roving is presented to the drafting mechanism.</p> |
