<p>Inflammable resins are rendered flame-proof by adding (a) 1.5-20 wt.% halogenatd bis (cycloalkenyl substd. olefin of formula (I) Xn-Q-R-Q-Xn" (whre Q is 5-8C cycloalkyl; X is Cl or Br; R is a 1-4C satd. acyclic hydrocarbon; and n, n' and n" are such that halogen content of compd. is 30-90 wt.% and available halogen content of the resulting mixt. is >=0.2 wt.%) and (b) 0.5-20 wt.% Sb2O3. A variety of resins are claimed including polymers of olefins, esp. 4-10C conjugated diolefins, styrenes, acrylonitrile, methyl (meth) acrylate, copolymers of butadiene and styrene (ABS) or acrylonitrile with vinyl pyridine or vinyl acetate, cellulosics, epoxides, nylons etc. (I) is esp. 1,2-bis (3,4-dibromocyclohexyl)-1,2-dibromoethane, Compsn. is odourless, non-corrosive, stable and of good props.</p> |
