PICTURE AREA SEGMENTATION METHOD

PURPOSE:To save the work memory capacity by designating a coordinate with an input means such as a mouse on a picture displayed on a CRT or the like, calculating an inclination value between the two points in the order of designated coordinates and obtaining the coordinate for each line. CONSTITUTION:A picture subjected to photoelectric conversion with a scanner 1 or a picture retrieved by a picture storage section 2 is stored in a picture memory 4 via a bus line 7 and the stored picture is displayed by a display section 3. Then an n-polygonal area in the picture displayed is designated by the operator by using the mouse 11 and the coordinate inputted by the mouse 11 is fetched sequentially on the picture memory 4 and n-point of coordinate table of the designated n-polygon is generated. Then a DMAC/computing element 5 calculates the profile coordinate of the n-polygonal area from the relevant n-point coordinate table for each line to generate the profile coordinate of the said n-polygonal area on the picture memory 4. Thus, the coordinate table is enough for the work area to segment the optional closed area of the picture.
