PURPOSE: To change light into a diffused state to a higher degree, by moving sections of each panel along a curved track system and closing the drum-type panels together in a superimposed manner at their front in a path of light. CONSTITUTION: A variable diffuser 28 is equipped with a first drum-type diffuser panel 30 movable between a top track 34 and a lower track 36 and a second similar diffuser panel 32. When light emitted from a lamp 18 is diffused, the two diffuser panels 30, 32 are moved along the track 34, 36 by driving a motor 44. By moving the diffuser panels 30, 32 by means of a track system comprising the upper track 34 and the lower track 36 to a location where they are completely superimposed in a path of light, the light passes through the two diffuser panels 30, 32 and is diffused to a higher degree. When the diffuser panels 30, 32 are moved in superimposed relation like this, a double dispersion effect is obtained and further dispersion or diffusion of a light beam can be produced. |
