PROCESSING METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FILE SERVICE DEMAND

PURPOSE: To make it possible to identify a single file even when specifying part of the name of the file by storing the global name of each data object together with the attributive value of each token position in the catalog of the data object. CONSTITUTION: The global name of each data object is stored together with the attributive value of each token position in the catalog of the data object. Each attributive value represents the nature of the token of the global name. When a file service request is executed, one indicator is assigned to each token position in the file name when the file service request is issued. When this file name is evaluated for the token corresponding to the global name in the catalog, each of the indicators determines a particular action. The file name is analyzed for these global names. When the indicator and attributive value of a data object candidate is selected from the catalog, a requested file service is executed for the selected data object.
