[Also in Division E1] An erosion controlling surface comprises one or more layers of flexible liquid-permeable sheets 10 on which are placed blocks of concrete, or other material of the form shown in Fig. 1, so that the blocks abut each other. The blocks may be of concrete, plastics, brick, compressed garbage &c., and plants may grow in the drainage channels 16, 12, 14. The sheet is characterized in that it will permit water to flow through it but not soil particles. The blocks may have flat upper surfaces, sheets may be attached to the upper surfaces of the blocks, two layers of blocks with a sheet sandwiched between them may be used. The blocks may be attached to the sheets by glue, pins, or cables. The complete system may be formed in prefabricated sections, or made in situ. |
