PURPOSE: To detect a print quality automatically in an appropriate manner and to enhance the print quality by sensing markings prepared on a medium and by detecting the deviation of the quality of the markings from a predetermined one. CONSTITUTION: When a trace 10 is drawn up on a medium 2, it is checked by a detecting system 4 and determination is made as to whether or not the quality of the trace left on the medium actually conforms with a desired one. It is checked, in other words, whether or not the trace is wholly drawn up, whether or not desired characteristics regarding the density (excellent clearness) and uniformity of the trace drawn up are obtained and whether or not the trace left on the medium is colored in a desired manner. Since the characteristics of the trace are determined on the basis of a light reflection characteristic, an incorporated computer 6 of a printing system compares a measured level of reflected light with a nominal level and determines whether markings prepared actually have a desired quality or not. When any deviation is detected, a procedure of correction is started. Thereby a print quality is improved. |
