摘要 PURPOSE:To develop the high-strength ceramic sintered body contg. SiC whiskers by compressively molding a raw material mixture contg. the SiC whiskers having films of SiO2, etc., on the surface as a reinforcing material and powdery alumina as a matrix, oxidizing the molding at a high temp. in the atm. and sintering the molding in a vacuum. CONSTITUTION:The raw material mixture consisting of 10 to 70vol.% SiC whiskers having 0.3 to 1.0mum average diameter and 20 to 60 average aspect ratio, 1 to 25vol.% sintering assistant consisting of oxides contg. Si and Al or SiO2, and the balance the alumina contg. <=34vol.% at least one kind of LiO, MgO, CaO, oxides of rare earth elements or the solid soln. thereof as a grain growth inhibitor is compressively molded and the molding is subjected to the oxidation treatment by heating for >=30 minutes at 1000 to 1300 deg.C in the atm. The molding is then sintered at >=1500 deg.C and under the pressure conditions of >=50kg/cm<2> in a vacuum or inert gaseous atmosphere. The high- strength ceramic sintered member of the alumina matrix contg. the SiC whiskers as the core part and having the sintering assistant of <=1mum thickness in the peripheral part thereof is produced.
