The invention relates to a machine support intended to keep facing one another at least two tools 5, 13 which are called upon to move towards one another and to undergo action and reaction forces. This support comprises a main supporting structure 1 which withstands the pressure forces on the tools, and a guiding supporting structure 2 which is not subjected to these forces, which guides a slideway 11 carrying one of the tools 13. The other tool 5 is fixed facing it on the main supporting structure. The slideway is moved by a thrust cylinder 6 fixed to the main supporting structure which transmits only axial forces to it. Such a support avoids the emergence of positional offsets and angular offsets between the tools. The invention may be applied to riveting machines, but also to other types of machines such as cutting, punching, forming, crimping presses etc. <IMAGE>
