The invention relates to a process, in association with bleaching lignocellulose-containing pulp, for rendering a peroxide-containing bleaching stage more efficient by means of the pulp, prior to such a stage, being treated with a sequestering agent, with the trace metal profile in the pulp being altered by treatment with the sequestering agent, in the absence of sulphite, at a pH within the interval from 3.1 up to 9.0 and at a temperature within the interval from 26 degree C up to 100 degree C, after which the treatment with a peroxide-containing substance is carried out in a second stage, at a pH within the interval from 7 up to 13, with the said two- stage treatment being carried out at an optional position in the bleaching sequence which is used for the pulp. |
