Swine melanoma cell line - for investigation of cytostatic cpds. and inhibits of DNA replication

The swine melanoma cell line is defined as PM86 ECACC No. 89013101 and is used for in vitro testing of pharmaceuticals, and investigation of the interrelationships and pathology of melanomas. The cell lines are also for use (1) as antigens, or for obtaining specific antigens for immunisation with specific or non-specific protective compounds to induce a cellular immune reaction, and (2) for injection into mice, to induce tumours with the characteristics of swine melanoma. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cell lines from pigs, esp. melanoma cell lines are rare. Swine melanoma is a good model for the human disease, and the cell line shows no reversion to non-tumour cells after more than 60 passages.
