PURPOSE: To generate sound energy by oscillating an oscillatory means disposed under the surface of a liquid contained in a chamber while spaced apart therefrom. CONSTITUTION: A first gas is pressure fed through an inlet pipe 7 into a chamber 1 until a desired high pressure is reached and a liquid, e.g. methanol, is introduced through an inlet pipe 9 into a chamber 2. An oscillator is then held vertically with the chamber 2 directing downward such that a diaphragm 6 is set under a common opening and one valve 10 of the chamber 2 is opened to discharge the liquid which is then set at a desired level. Subsequently, the remaining part of in the chamber 2 is filled with a second gas at lower sound velocity than the first gas such that the pressure in the chamber 2 becomes lower than that in the chamber 1. When a ball valve 8 is opened and the diaphragm 6 is ruptured by the gas pressure, the chambers 1, 2 are communicated and a shock wave propagates through the gas above the liquid in the chamber 2. It is converted into a planar subsonic sound wave having amplitude of about 70-100 bar and propagates through the liquid. The diaphragm 6 is thereby oscillated to transmits sound energy to the outside.
|
