In aluminium electrolytic capacitor mfr. involving post-conversion treatment of capacitor windings consisting of dielectric-coated anode foils with an electrolyte-impregnated spacer and cathode foils, the novelty is that the windings are treated additionally with short voltage pulses at above the conversion voltage and at low temp., pref. room temp. Pref. the voltage pulses increase with decreasing duration. The low temp. treatment may be interrupted by one or more treatments at high temp. and reduced voltage pulses. The treatment may be carried out after or during normal post-conversion treatment. ADVANTAGE - The resulting capacitors can withstand intermittent high overvoltages without affecting service life and electrical properties.
