The invention relates to a coarse filter intended for use as e.g. a so-called fat filter in kitchens in institutions and restaurants as well as school kitchens, in bakeries and industrial premises, or at air discharge systems for corresponding premises. To the coarse filter belongs a separating part consisting of two or more separator modules 16 functioning by means of the centrifugal-and-collision principle, the module advantageously comprising two or more separator module discs 16a, 16b and the remaining constructional details of the coarse filter. In the separator module 16 two or more inlet openings 18 for air are provided, which are advantageously placed on the rear and on the forward side of the separator module. The inlet opening 18 of the separator module is wider at the bottom than at the top. The beaky means 17 of the inlet opening 18 is constituted by the mantle of the separator module 16. The separator module 16 is made of two or more parts. The inlet openings 18 are lower than 1/3 of the height of the separator module 16. A coarse filter method where the separation of fat in the lower part of the separator module 16 is based on a rotational movement of the air flow and in the upper part of the inlet opening 18 on the collision effect. <IMAGE>
