PURPOSE:To produce the continuously build-up cast roll having a shaft material which is high in strength, less in residual stress and has high reliability by using a steel product contg. Ni for the shaft material and lowering the initiation temp. of the transformation expansion in the shaft material arising at the time of cooling in a quenching treatment. CONSTITUTION:The shaft material of the conjugated roll for rolling is made of a cast steel or forged steel contg., by weight, 0.3 to 1.0% C and <=3% Ni. The roll is subjected to quenching at a rate of 0.3 to 7 hours half-cooling time from 900 to 1200 deg.C after roll casting, by which the initiation temp. of the transformation expansion arising in the shaft material is lowered down to <=700 deg.C. The shaft material of the roll is, therefore, enhanced in the strength and lessened in the residual stress in the axial direction, by which the roll having the high reliability to a large bending stress is obtd. |
