Cutter for turning stepped profiles - has tool-bit with locating balls that can be forced against cutter body to adjust position
摘要
The cutter is built up from toolbits (20) of rectangular shape with a throw-away tip (18) secured ina recess (24) at one corner. The toolbit is supported in a pocket (12) in the cutter body (10) and clamped by a cap head screw (34) which passes loosely through thee toolbit at an angle and urges it towards the walls (58,60) of the pocket (12). Screws (64) in the toolbit have conical ends which can be forced-onto steel balls (50) to move them outwards against the walls (58,60) and thus to adjust the position of the toolbit relative to the cutter body. USE/ADVANTAGE - Axial and radial adjustment of the toolbits can be made easily accessible screws, permitting complex internal and external stepped profiles to be produced. Blind bores can be machined. Clamping system will withstand high cutting forces.
