Several peripheral tracks are cut in a cylindrical metal body which is then placed in a capsule. Powder, consisting of a different metal material to the body, is filled into the space between the body and the capsule wall, and also into the peripheral tracks. The capsule is then evacuated and closed so that it is gastight. It, in company with its contents, is then consolidated isostatically to an essentially tight body. this body is machined mechanically, pref. by drilling and turning, with the capsule being removed. The consolidated body is formed to a hollow extrusion body with constituent materials being arranged alternately one behind the other in an axial direction. Finally, the consolidated body is extruded to form a cpd. pipe which can be cut into shorter lengths. The consolidation carried out in an earlier stage is done heat-isostatiocally at a temp. of between 1000 and 1300 deg.C, and at a pressure exceeding 50 MPa. |
