PURPOSE:To provide the subject sulfide having specific heat resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional stability and useful as an engineering plastic, etc., by specifying the intrinsic viscosity, the weight-average mol.wt. and the ratio between the intrinsic viscosity and a calculated viscosity thereof, respectively. CONSTITUTION:(A) At least one kind of a metal sulfide selected from the group consisting of alkali metal sulfides and alkali metal hydrosulfides, (B) a dihalogeno aromatic compound and (C) a tri(poly)halogeno nitro aromatic compound are subjected in a B/A molar ratio of 1.03-1.25 to a reaction in a polar solvent (e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone) to provide the objective sulfide having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.1-0.5dl/g, a weight-average mol.wt. of 1X10<4>-2X10<5>, a ratio of intrinsic viscosity/calculated viscosity of 0.4-0.8 and a whiteness degree of >=50. |
