PURPOSE:To form a display element which allows the easy execution of an electrical orientation treatment and has high reliability, high contrast and high transmissivity by applying acrylate contg. an amino group and acrylamide deriv. monomer on substrates, then photopolymerizing it with UV rays. CONSTITUTION:An org. high-polymer monomer or the soln. thereof is applied on the electrode substrates 1, 9 and is then irradiated with UV rays or visible rays, by which the coatings are photopolymerized and org. oriented film 4, 6 are are formed to form the element; thereafter, the orientation state is improved by impressing an electric field thereto. An orienting agent is, therefore, a monomer in the stage when the orienting agent is applied on the substrates 1, 9. This monomer is soluble in a solvent and is easily applicable. In addition, the direct application is possible without requiring the solvent in the case of a low-viscosity liquid of styrene or the like. The monomer is photopolymerized and a crosslinking agent is taken into the high polymer to form a three-dimensional structure and to insolubilize the polymer when the solvent is removed and the coating is irradiated with UV rays or visible light in the case of using the solvent after the application of the orienting agent. The display element having the high long-term reliability, high contrast and high transmissivity is formed in this way. |
