<p>1305978 Filters FRAM CORP 26 May 1970 [26 May 1969] 25268/70 Heading BID In a filter assembly comprising a housing 12 and a tubular filter element 10, which may be made of pleated paper, the'liquid to be filtered (e.g. oil), which enters the assembly through a ring of inlet openings 16, normally flows under the outer edge of flexible member 40 so as to pass from the outside to the inside of filter element 10 before leaving the assembly through opening 28 and outlet 18; but when the filter element becomes clogged the rise in pressure causes the feed liquid to raise the inner portion of the flexible member 40 so that the liquid flows through holes 50 in valve seat 26 into the outlet 18 without passing through the filter element. The outer edge of member 40 functions as a non-return valve, and the annular resilient extension 36 of the housing 24 of the relief valve is arranged to bias the non-return valve towards its closed position. Member 40 is sandwiched between seat 26 and housing portion 32 which is welded to seatprojections passing through member 40. One end of coil spring 60 fits around the cylindrical extension of valve plate 64, and the other end of the coil spring bears against the top of housing 24. Under normal filtration flow, spring 60 holds plate 64 against member 40 to press it against rib 54 of valve seat 26, thereby preventing flow through openings 50.</p> |
