NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is H and R2 is (CH2)2CH3, R1 is CH3 and R2 is CH2CH2 or R1 is CH3 and R2 is (CH2)2CH3]. EXAMPLE:4-Acetoxy-3-propyl-2-azetidinone. USE:Useful as an optically active precursor of beta-lactam antibiotic substances having a wide range or antimicrobial spectrum against Gram-positive and Gram- negative bacteria. PREPARATION:Enol acetates expressed by formula II are reacted with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate and then reduced with Na2SO3, etc., to afford the compound expressed by formula I. A mixture of the respective optically active isomers of a beta-lactam compound with a cellulose tris-substituted phenyl carbamate or amylose tris-substituted phenyl carbamate is used to carry out optical resolution and provide a novel optically active beta-lactam compound. |
