The lock bolts 3 can move between a lock closed position and a lock open position. A bolt 15 can move, under the action of a key-operated cylinder 22, between a first position in which the lock bolts 3 are blocked mechanically in the lock closed position, and a second position in which the electromagnetic operation of the lock is allowed by means of solenoids 7. Means 14, 35 couple the bolt 15 and the lock bolts 3 when the bolt passes from its second position to its first position and when the lock bolts 3 are initially in the lock open position, or in any case when the bolt 15 arrives in the first position while the lock bolts are in the closed position. A blocking catch 46 then locks the bolt 15 and therefore the lock bolts 3 in the lock closed position. For operation in the other direction, a key web 31 driven by the cylinder 22 pushes back the catch 46, then the bolt 15 entrains the lock bolts 3 into the lock open position in which the means 14, 35 are uncoupled, after which electromagnetic operation is possible.
