PURPOSE:To prevent a tape from damaging by terminating grooves, used for aerodynamically controlling a floting gap provided on the surface of a head facing a recording medium, smoothly at points inside of the ends of the surface. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head consists of a magnetic core part 5 and a slider part 7 having an arc surface 7' for floating a magnetic tape aerodynamically. In the arc surface 7' of the slider part 7 facing the magnetic tape, two grooves 6 are made. Those grooves 6 are provided for controlling the floting gap of the magnetic tape, and both ends of each groove 6, i.e. entrance and exit ends for an air flow are terminated smoothly to the arc surface 7' at points inside of the ends of the arc surface 7'. Therefore, even if the magnetic tape is bitten into the gap part between a rotor and the magnetic head, the possibility that the magnetic tape damages is reduced greatly. The influence of the shortened lengths of the grooves 6 upon the flating state of the magnetic tape and upon electromagnetic transducing characteristics is removed by adequately adjusting the extent of head deep work and that of groove depth work. |
