Diarylimidazoles of the general formula: (I) wherein R1 is a radical of the general formula: (II) in which R3 and R6 are hydrogen atoms, R4 and R5, which can be the same or different, are lower alkyl radicals or R3/R4 and/or R5/R6 in each case together represent a lower alkylene radical and R2 is a lower alkyl radical, and/or of a salt thereof, especially in the presence of at least one SH group-containing substance, are useful as redox indicators.
