The invention relates to a process for preparing indole of high purity, comprising the steps of selectively hydrogenating a reaction mixture containing indole, vinyl anilines and other unsaturated compounds in melted state at a temperature of 60-70 DEG C or in an organic solvent at room temperature, in the presence of 0.5-2.0% by weight of an active carbon catalyst containing 5 to 20% by weight of palladium, and distilling off the thus-obtained indole. By the claimed process the indole is obtained in a purity of at least 99% by weight. |
