The transport system, esp. for metal turnings, has the novelty of a transporter duct (102) positioned below the material feed (11) and containing a motor-driven slide (105) which moves the turnings into the duct. The total cross-section of the slide ram (106) is less than that of the transporter duct whose own cross-section increases inn the direction of transport. The ram is activated by pressure-medium-operated cylinders and when extended into the transporter duct is self-supporting at a distance from the duct walls. Hold-back fingers are provided in the transporter ducct to prevent the turnings falling or being drawn back again when, for example, the ram is retracted. ADVANTAGE - Turnings or similar small metal partic. are readily conveyed by this simply constructed transport system.
