PURPOSE:To prevent the damage of a device due to heat generation of an exciting lamp, to improve safety, and to reduce the size, the weight, and the cost of a device by providing a switching means to switch the value of a current, fed to the exciting lamp, from a minimum value necessary for the exciting lamp to maintain discharge to a value necessary to produce a preset given laser beam output. CONSTITUTION:In the OFF state of a change-over switch 15, a control unit 4 issues a command to a source unit 3 and controls a current fed to an exciting lamp 8 so that the current is regulated to a minimum value I0 necessary to maintain stable lighting. when an operator performs medical treatment by means of laser beam, by changing over the changeover switch 15 to an ON-state, a control unit 4 switches a current, fed to the exciting lamp 8, from a threshold I0 to a value I2 at which a laser beam output set by an output regulating knob 12 is generated. As a result, the exciting lamp 8 is increased in emission intensity and in a light output, and by strongly exciting a laser rod 7, a laser beam output is increased to a set level. Thereafter, since when the operator steps on a foot switch 13, a shutter 11 opens a light pass, laser beams can be lead from a transmission mirror 10 through a laser probe. |
