Drop forge press with press frame (1), ram (2), lower tool holder (3) and upper tool holder (4) has an elongated ram guide (5) extending into the region of the lower holder (3). The upper holder (4) has guide surfaces (6) which are complementary to the ram guide (5). The lower holder has fitting surfaces (7) which match the ram guide (5). The ram guide, including the extensions are constructed in a linear fashion. ADVANTAGE - Working tolerances are greatly reduced and precision drop forged prods can be produced also when using longer deformation paths.
