Device for receiving a hot formed article (2), from a production unit and transporting it to a finishing station comprises a moveable car having a handling device (1) which rotates about vertical axis (4). The device has telescopic arms (8,9) fitted with a support surface (3) and a push rod unit (10). When the article is transferred to e.g. a conveyor (27) the surface (3) is rapidly withdrawn from beneath the article as the pusher unit prevents it from toppling backwards. USE/ADVANTAGE - Transferring glass, glass ceramic or ceramic material The transfer process takes place with the article still in a hot condition and without any excessive frictional force causing damage such as scratches.
