Grooves 46, 48 intersect a pattern of crossgrooves 54. The relatively short groove 46 provides enhanced vacuum to facilitate attraction and initial hold down of the labels. Electric heating means 66 are mounted in the land to activate adhesive on the labels, and to prevent melted adhesive, which tends to combine with dirt and dust and the like, from blocking the vacuum passages, bores 79 for containing replaceable filters 78 are formed to intersect the passages leading from the passages 51. |
