PURPOSE: To wash and disinfect a contact lens simultaneously by contacting the contact lens with an aqueous system containing an antibacterial agent and a proteolytic enzyme for a sufficient time. CONSTITUTION: This composition used for washing and disinfection of a contact lens, consists of water, one or more proteolytic enzyme(s) and one or more antibacterial agent(s). The proteolytic enzyme has an ability to hydrolyze peptide-amide bonds at least partly and cut a proteinaceous material into a small water-soluble subunit. Other lipase or carbohydrase may be used in combination with it. Furthermore, a disinfectant is not precipitated in the presence of the enzyme and contains a disinfecting amount of one or more antibacterial agent(s) suitable for the enzyme. The disinfecting amount means an amount to decrease a microbial group at least partly in the used pharmaceuticals, preferably to decrease a microbial loading amount within 4 hours for 2 log orders, and within 1 hour for 1 log order. |
