An electronic ballast for a discharge lamp (5) includes a mains rectifier and filter unit (1) which is fed from the A.C. mains supply and produces a D.C. voltage output. This D.C. voltage is applied to an oscillator (2) generating a sine wave output of field effect transistors (3a and 3b). A square wave signal derived from the common output of these transistors (3a, 3b) is fed through an inductor (4) to provide a virtually constant current source to drive the discharge lamp (5). |
