The device analyses the surrounding space portion and delivers periodically, at a sufficiently rapid rate, an image thereof in the form of a plurality of pixels. An extraction circuit (2) extracts, from said pixels, those which satisfy a first criterion usually satisfied by any pixel representative of a possible enemy missile, and also delivers to a processing means (3) information relating to pixels of the environment of each of said extracted pixels. The processing circuit (3) processes the pixels thus extracted and their respective environment and determines whether additional criteria, usually satisfied by any pixel and its environment which are representative of a possible enemy missile, are met, for deciding which extracted pixels are representative of an enemy missile. The surrounding space portion may be analysed by a rotating, vertical array of infra-red detectors. |
