PURPOSE: To treat or prevent the infection with Pneumocystic carinii by administering an antiinfective amount of a specific cyclohexaspeptide compound to mammals. CONSTITUTION: A compound represented by formula I R' to R"" are each H or OH or further an O-alkyl, O-benzyl or represented by formula II (R<1> is H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, phenyl, etc.; R<2> is H or an alkoxy); R"" is H, CH3 or CH2 CONH2 ; R""" is H or CH3 ; R is a CO-alkyl or a CO-alkenyl; R is represented by formula III or IV [A is O, S, SO or SO2 ; Al is A or NH; X is H, Cl, NO2 an alkyl, OH, etc.; R1 is H, an alkyl or an alkenyl; W is an alkylene or an alkenylene; (m), (n) and (p) are each 0 or 1 when R' to R"" or each OH and R""' is CH3 ], etc.} is administered to a patient, infected with Pneumocystis carinii and having an impaired or a suppressed immune system, a patient, infected with the Pneumocystis carinii and manifecting acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS), etc., in a dose of 0.5-20.0mg based on 1kg body weight of the patient. |
