The atmospheric pressure is assigned as reference pressure to the sensor signal of a pressure sensor when the piston is in the TDC position for gas exchange. This reference signal and two further sensor signals at predetermined piston positions are used for determining the sensor sensitivity and, by means of the latter, the absolute pressure at any desired piston positions.
