<p>A handling apparatus includes: a storage unit (34, 36, 132, 134, 136, 138) defining a storage space for receiving a stack of metal-sheet work pieces; a separating unit (48, 50, 228, 230, 232, 234) for separating the stacked work pieces from one another in the storage space; and a pick-up unit (16, 182, 184, 186, 188, 190, 192, 200, 202, 204, 206, 208, 210, 212, 214, 216, 218, 220, 222) for picking up each of the work pieces in the storage space in turn, beginning with the topmost work piece, to transfer the work piece which has been picked up, to a predetermined position outside of the storage space. The separating unit includes a magnet unit which produces a magnetic field in the storage space, the magnetic field being such that the lines of magnetic flux extend substantially horizontally within the storage space. This magnetic field causes the work pieces in the storage space to be magnetized and to repel one another. The storage unit retains the stacked work pieces in precise vertical alignment in the storage space.</p> |
