PURPOSE:To elongate the life of a lithium battery and increase discharge current by arranging the positive electrode in such a manner that clearances for circulating electrolyte are formed each extending from a separator to a positive electrode current collector. CONSTITUTION:Clearances 7 each extending from a separator 3 to a positive electrode current collector 5 are formed between adjacent positive electrodes 6, and thionyl chloride having electrolyte dissolved therein is circulated as electrolyte and as positive electrode active material in the clearances 7. Because the clearances 7 serve as passages for Li<+>, Li<+> is supplied to as far as that portion of the positive electrode 6 which is near the positive electrode current collector 5 farthest from the negative electrode 2. Since each clearance 7 is formed wider than the hole of the positive electrode current collector 6 formed from a porous body, reaction products are scarcely accumulated in the clearances 7 even when reaction products are accumulated in the hole of the positive electrode 6 with progress of discharge. Shift of Li<+> is therefore not disturbed even with progress of discharge, and a current is supplied at a stable voltage until the final stage of discharge. |
