Device retaining sparks and solid particles comprises two coaxial cylinders forming a separator space, a fixing element is located along the axis of the outer cylinder, supporting a filter mesh at one end. A discharge pipe and a guide disc located at the other end of the outer cylinder, inducing rotary movement of the gas, are also provided. The separator space is defined by two discs. The inlet pipe connection is provided with a conical expander section. - For petrol engined machines, the outer cylinder is fitted with at least 3 segmental guide plates. These are attached to opposite sides of the cylinder, at a distance of 0.1-0.3D from each other, extending 0.6-0.9D, pref. 0.8D into the cylinder internal space.
