PURPOSE: To obtain a PTFE shaped article exhibiting high values of a mechanical strength and a density by stretching a polytetrafluoroethylene by limiting a strength value and a density in a stretching direction. CONSTITUTION: A PTFE shaped article is monoaxially stretched. A strength value of its stretching direction is at least 500 N/mm<2> , or preferably at least 700 N/mm<2> . Its density is 1.80 to 2.30 g/cm<3> , or preferably 2.0 to 2.20 g/cm<3> . Preferably, the article is regulated to a film, a tape, a weaving thread or a sewing thread state. With the above strength value, the thread exhibits 3 to 50% of an elongation. This monoaxially stretched shaped article is manufactured by continuously shaping a paste lump containing PTFE powder, applying the obtained shaped article to a plurality of rollers 1, 4 or rolls 3', 3", heating it to 327 to 450 deg.C or preferably 350 to 390 deg.C to be sintered, and then stretching it. |
