PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer sheet wherein a colorant layer is not thermally fused to the dyeing layer of an image receiving material and recording characteristics are well by providing the colorant layer containing a binder and a dye sublimed or evaporated by heat to a substrate and further providing a protective layer composed of a polyvinyl butyral resin on the colorant layer. CONSTITUTION:A colorant layer 3 containing a binder and a dye sublimed or evaporated by heat is provided on a substrate 2 and a protective layer 4 composed of a polyvinyl butyral resin is provided on the colorant layer 3 and, therefore, the thermal transfer recording sheet 6 thus prepared is not thermally fused to an image receiving material 5. The polyvinyl butyral resin pref. has a glass transition point of 45 - 100 deg.C and, when the glass transition point is below 45 deg.C, the blocking at the time of high temp. preservation or the transfer, bleeding or precipitation of the dye from the colorant layer to the protective layer can not be prevented and, when the glass transition point exceeds 100 deg.C, the transmission of the sublimed dye becomes difficult. The thickness of the protective layer is 0.02 - 0.3mum. |
