A toothbrush includes a pivotal head having bristles mounted thereon with the head arranged so that it can be moved into any desired angular orientation relative to the handle portion of the toothbrush. Two embodiments are illustrated with one being adapted for direct manual manipulation of the head and the other including a remote thumbwheel disposed along the handle portion of the toothbrush for manipulating the angular orientation of the head relative to the handle. The bristles on the toothbrush are bonded together along a portion of their length to rigidify the bristles so that they can be made longer without sacrificing a proper balance between flexibility and rigidity.
