PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording material having a desired hue by using an infrared absorption compound having a predetermined composition as a light absorber. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording material is formed by providing a recording layer containing a thermal recording material and a near infrared absorption compound represented by formula on a base material. In the formula, a ring A<1> and a ring B<1> are a benzene ring or a naphthalene ring and may have a polar substituent such as a sulfonic acid group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group or halogen, R1 and R2 are a 1 - 8C alkyl group or an alkenyl group, X<-> is an anion and M1 and M2 are hydrogen, Na or K when there is X<-> and only either one of M1 and M2 is hydrogen, Na or K when there is no X<->. Especially, a thermal color forming layer containing a basic leuco dye and an org. coupler allowing the leuco dye to form a color at the time of heating is provided on the base material and a protective layer composed of a water-soluble binder and the water-soluble near infrared absorber represented by the formula is further laminated to the thermal color forming layer. |
