Polymers, wood fibre materials, woven fabrics, cardboard, paper, fleeces, laminates, coatings are rendered fire resistant by incorporating into them microcapsules contg. fire retardant materials which are toxic or irritating to the skin. The capsules are activated by either using a coating, which melts at a given temp. or is decomposed and releases the flame retardant material, or the b. pt. of the material is such, that it bursts the capsule when the given temp. is reached. Addn. of 5-60%, pref. 20-40%, of microcapsules is sufficient. |
