PURPOSE:To detect a direction of out-of-focus by setting the length of optical paths arriving at two image pickup elements individually from a photographing lens differently a little in resolvable ranges at respective image pickup element, and comparing the high-pass components of luminance signals obtained from the two image pickup elements, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The length of optical path arriving from a lens 1 at the image pickup element 3 for Y signal is set differently a little from that arriving from the lens 1 at the image pickup element 4 for C signal. A comparator 12 sends different output according to whether the lens is focalized on a position before the position to be focused (front focusing) or the position behind it (rear focusing) at present to a focusing adjuster control circuit 13 based on high-pass component evaluation parameter signals (FY and FC) extracted from the image pickup element 3 for Y signal and the image pickup element 4 for C signal, respectively, then, the lens is moved in the direction to obtain correct focusing. |
